Around the Fire News

Welcome to my new updated blog.

Officially we begin tomorrow but we'll consider this a test run.
Around the campfire is a melding of Take a Peek Through the Window and Welcome to the Campfire you can still access these by clicking on the menu and you should. Some amazing people have already shared about themselves. We will continue chatting around the campfire because in my opinion that's where the best conversations happen. We're going to continue to peek into author lives and their books, but make more room for new releases, backlists and adventures other than camping.
Hope you all had a marvelous Halloween. Next up Thanksgiving. I think it's one of my favorites. No pressure of gifts. Just friends and family, good food, and maybe a game or two.
I found these statistics and shared them with a few folks earlier this week but hey sharing is caring right? Have you ever been rejected? No? Lucky you. I have. So have these writers. Anyone you recognize?
  • Agatha Christie dealt with 5 years of rejection before she got a deal. Today $2 billion in books have been sold.
  • Louis L’Amour must have been down in the dumps after 200 rejections. A publisher finally signed him. Yeah, 330 million sales.
  • Dan Brown was told The Da Vinci Code badly written. He stuck to it and the novel eventually sold 80 million.
  • Remember a little book called Twilight? 14 agencies said no to Stephanie Meyers. I wouldn't want to tell my boss I rejected a book that has sold 17 million copies.
  • Meg Cabot author of The Princess Diaries kept three years of rejection letters. Now 15 million copies later, I bet she looks at those and laughs.
  • Louisa May Alcott  was told to give up. Nope and  140 years later she still sells books.
  • I'm binging Harry Potter right now. Did you know The Sorcerer's Stone took 13 tries before finally being picked up?
Still feeling rejected? You're in good company. Keep plugging away.
And come back tomorrow for my inaugural guest and her so sweet Christmas Cookie book.
